No Change in Peak Hours – MEPCO

No Change in Peak Hours – MEPCO Says “Don’t Believe the Rumors!”

Let’s clear something up, there is no change in MEPCO’s electricity peak hours. And no morning peak hours either. That’s just a rumor.

Lately, some messages have been going around saying morning hours are now counted as peak time. That’s totally false. This is only a baseless statement spreading wrongly.

What Did MEPCO or the Power Division Say?

On July 12, 2025, around 9:43 PM, the Power Division posted on X (Twitter):

“There is no change in policy. Peak hours are still in the evening and night only. No morning hours have been added.”

So if you saw anything else (other than this official version), it’s just fake news. Be wise and simply ignore it!

What are Peak Hours, Anyway?

Peak hours are simply the time of day when most people are using electricity. In Pakistan, that’s usually after sunset. People get home (it is the family time), turn on fans, lights, ACs, or start cooking, and the electricity demand goes way up.

To handle that, MEPCO sometimes brings extra power plants online, even the expensive ones. That’s why they mark these hours as “peak hours”.
